Explains the topics of research in peri-implant health
Dr. Alberto Monje, a specialist in periodontology and implants, was interviewed by Maxillaris magazine in July during SEPA (Spanish Society of Periodontology) Congress in Seville, Spain. He explained the research currently carried out regarding the prevention of peri-implantitis and the progress that Ticare is doing in this regard. Full interview to Dr. Alberto Monje is available in this link.
Predicting is one of the keys to minimize the risk of peri-implant pathology
One of the clear axes that Ticare determined more than a decade ago is to anticipate the events that were coming. This is the case of this “tsunami” of peri-implantitis that we have currently been able to identify.
Predicting, one of the keys to minimizing the risk of peri-implant pathology
One of the main issues that Ticare determined more than a decade ago was to anticipate the events that were about to come. This is the case of the “tsunami” of peri-implantitis cases that we are currently encountering.
Ticare has been developing a series of innovative and revolutionary concepts to mitigate or minimize the risk of peri-implant pathology. GapZero, that is, seeking the minimum space at the implant-abutment interface so that there is no inflammatory infiltration and no early bone loss. According to information published about this concept, if we are able to minimize early bone loss after prosthesis is loaded, we will be able to prevent peri-implantitis at ten years, being up to ten times more effective. That is, we are talking about a gapZero that can limit bacterial microleakage that would lead to inflammatory infiltration that would be the cause of bone loss.
Once a machined surface is exposed due to physiologic factors related to the patient or pathologic ones, peri-implantitis can be prevented from progressing quickly and, at the same time, we are able to reverse the situation thanks to resective and reconstructive methods.
We are making research on how does implant surface behave to different decontamination protocols that promote healthy cells to go back to that area leading to homeostasis, an equilibrium, a state of balance.
Training courses in collaboration with colleges of dentists about bone regeneration to prevent complications.
Dr. Alberto Monje gives, with the support of Ticare, training courses for the prevention of peri-implantitis at the Colleges of Dentists in different locations. “It is important to highlight that Ticare offers training courses about many disciplines, without a direct corporate interest, to give solutions to the patients. That is to say, increase predictability in dental implantology from the point of view of prevention and, in the cases where the pathology is occurring, to be able to give solutions to the patient, which has always been the focus, aligned with the Spanish Society of Periodontology’s.
From a clinical point of view, working with parts featuring GapZero offers the benefits of single-piece implants, and it offers versatility because it allows us to place the implant more apical, more coronal, and having this in mind, being able to customize the prosthetic abutment height. Moreover, there is certainty that there is a very limited space at the implant-abutment interface, a feature called GapZero, that will avoid bacterial leakage . This enables predictable results even in compromised situations where it is important to minimize the physiologic bone loss which is the key factor to success and implant longevity.
Of every ten patients, six are candidates to have peri-implantitis and two actually have it.
Ticare Perio Hybrid, the implant for risk profile patients.
If we can help the patient by using an implant which surface will osseointegrate equally as one with rough surface and that, in case it exposes, it will be easy to clean and it will not be near the rough area where the bone loss will be stabilized and where the implant will connect to the abutment, the results will be more predictable. In a scenario of uncertainty where a low-risk patient might turn into a high-risk one, we have a feature that will help to prevent the pathology and if it still occurs, the area will be easy to clean.
